From the Ganges, to the Arno and to the Tiber, too: four Indian movies in Rome this Summer!
The Indian film festival “made in Florence” – after last February’s event in Milan – has got going again; it will be arriving in Rome soon.
The River to River Florence Indian Film Festival will be hosted at “Isola del Cinema”, an event that has been taking place on the Tiber Island for years, in the “Isola del Mondo” section on July 9th and 10th: a tribute to the cinema of four different countries (in addition to India, there will be Israel, Japan and Australia this year) that will include presentations, screenings, Q&As and food and drink tastings. Four films will be shown during these two evenings: Newton by Amit V Masurkar; Filmisthaan – the euphoric state of Bollywood by Yasmin Kidwai and Fazal Kidwai; Kapoor and sons by Shakun Batra and Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-leela by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. We have chosen these four, which differ one from another, to give a taste of the variety of Indian cinema.

The lessons will take place at the Grouporama Arena – yoga mat required.

2017’s wonder film and India’s entry for Oscars 2018.
Newton, in charge of a voting station in the midst of the jungle, wants to make sure everything will run smoothly. Amidst organisational complications and the hostility of his colleagues at the polling station, that will be an experience he will not easily forget.

Shot across India, Filmisthaan captures the spirit, the magic and the madness of a unique industry. The film imagines a perfect state that is wholly Indian – with a place for India’s diversity, her successes, her secular identity, her cosmopolitan nature and her power unite and integrate all communities through one value system. Within the film, the biggest names from Bollywood detail how they explain and experience the wonder of Hindi cinema.
