The first of two tributes to the great Bimal Roy, it is set in ‘30s Bengal. Charged with murder, Kalyani is in prison, waiting for her sentence. In flashbacks the film goes through the reasons for her imprisonment: her meeting with Bikash Ghosh, the anarchist she falls in love with, her leaving home, and much more.
